What Is Hybrid Education?

Our Flagship Hybrid Program is our standard, comprehensive educational option, in which students attend classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Families can also opt into Monday and Wednesday tutoring days.

The hybrid program maximizes students’ time with and input from parents while providing the framework of a rigorous, classical education that may seem out of reach or overwhelming for many parents. The school environment also enables children to develop friendships and interact with their peers in a healthy and constructive social setting.

Hybrid education also puts a high-quality classical education within reach of many who could not otherwise afford it. Newton Classical Academy is able to offer our program for about half the cost of a standard, full-time private school.

How Does Hybrid Education Work?

School is in session two full days each week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for kindergarten), with instruction and studies at home on the alternating days, in close collaboration with the classroom instructor.

School days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) provide standard classroom instruction. Classes sizes are capped at ten students per classroom in order for students to receive personalized instruction from their teachers.

Home days (Mondays and Wednesdays) provide parent-led instruction. On these days students do the work assigned by their teachers, guided by their parents as needed.

Fridays: Art and Music, held on Friday mornings, are included in tuition but are optional for all students. We also schedule school field trips on Fridays. Otherwise Fridays are reserved for families to engage in their own educational endeavors or just to live life together.

Teachers communicate with parents (usually via email) the expectations for home days. Grading and record-keeping is done by the teachers, unless the teacher specifically instructs parents to look over their student’s work.

For our curriculum we use Memoria Press’s core curriculum almost exclusively. (See more here.) Memoria began writing their curriculum in service to their own hybrid school twenty-five years ago, and we have found that their model and educational philosophy coheres very well with our own.
